Carissa N. Horowitz is counsel to Beall & Burkhardt. She began working for Beall & Burkhardt subsequent to graduating from law school and passing the California Bar Exam in 2010. Carissa earned her JD at Whittier Law School and earned her BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, majoring in Law & Society. During law school, Carissa externed with the Honorable Brian Hill and Honorable Thomas Adams of the California Superior Court in the County of Santa Barbara and with the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office., She discovered her desire to practice bankruptcy in her second year of law school after taking a bankruptcy course, which motivated her to apply and complete an externship under the Honorable Robin Riblet at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Santa Barbara during her last semester of law school.
Ms. Horowitz’ primary focus is in representing consumer and small business debtors in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases but also represents creditors and chapter 7 trustees. In addition to her work as an advocate, Ms. Horowitz is active in the legal community as a regular volunteer at the legal aid clinic for consumer debtors and a judge with the Santa Barbara Teen Court. She is a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, the Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Ms. Horowitz’ practice also includes advising clients in real estate matters relating to lease transactions, secured financing transactions, short sales and foreclosures.
Ms. Horowitz is also active in the local sports community as a dedicated and passionate cyclist who has been, and is, a part of local cycling teams and clubs. She also serves on the board of directors for the Semana Nautica Festival.
